I have great respect and admiration for the composer Michael Nyman and I know he deserved that first entry I wrote about music and about him in the blog, had been on his person and his extensive solo work (or rather, with his band which always accompanies the "Michael Nyman Band") but it just so happens that his last album called "The Glare", it has not done alone, but with singer David McAlmont and did not want to miss the opportunity to talk about this work, has been a pleasant surprise.
all started in 2002, when the London museum Sigmund Freud is found both artists and they were talking (although Nyman himself acknowledges that he knew who was David McAlmont, who had to ask) leave with a "one day we should work together," said Nyman. And there he stood, until in 2008 contacted through Facebook (so they say that professionally serve no social networks), began meeting and thus was born "The Glare".
The singer, inspired by the works of nineteenth-century French painter, Théodore Géricault, which portrayed contemporary life then decided that the lyrics of the songs reflected as present around us. (For example: "Take the Money and Run" talks about bank errors that have occurred in recent times, "Friendly Fire" is about euthanasia, the album's title track "The Glare" speaks of the reality shows that are broadcast on television). I did not want it to sound a political, but to make personal songs, ranging from small stories about people who live these situations.
I was lucky enough to go to the concert on February 23 in Madrid. It was very intense emotions . On the acting by the two artists (which played the album "The Glare") the songs that got me were: "Secrets, Accusations And Charges" (To the music of Gattaca, The Arrival / The Departure ", accompanying the voice)" In Laos "(with a wonderful version of" Time Lapse "much slower, and even changing the original score). And then two more songs musically animated: "City Of Turin" and "A Great Day In Kathmandu" (The string instruments at full speed is one of the house brands of the "Michael Nyman Band" is also an aesthetic and visual spectacle to see those arms synchronized to each moving ahead of others to create music).
was not the first time I had the chance to see the British composer concert and in the summer of 2007, I was fortunate to see him live in the central patio of the Conde Duque in Summers the Village. This time the show was with the Orchestra of Tetouan Chekara. Both concerts were amazing for different reasons. The magic of the place in the first, a mixture of both music and culture and, when they played "Miranda" was the highlight of the first concert. The voice of David McAlmont , the time Michael Nyman decided to return to play "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" from the soundtrack of "The Piano" and, especially, when , I was finally able to listen live, I finally enjoy, "Time Lapse" and "The Departure / The Arrival" for the soundtrack "Gattaca" in their original versions: only Nyman, orchestra, musical phrases repeated over and over again and I keep trying to time the moment and every note floated by the Circo Price.
At the end of both shows Michael Nyman (second also David McAlmont) was available to anyone who wanted to be able to talk to him or to make you sign a record. On both occasions I had the same impression of him, that of a simple and close it only wants to make his music, he believes fervently. In the first concert I bought one of the few albums that did not have him, "Six Celan Songs, The Ballad of Kastriot Rexhepi" which I signed. Here is the photo.
Once again it was a pleasure to see him live next to Mr. Nyman. Mr. McAlmont watch that great voice, I'm glad he wanted to put lyrics to the music of Michael Nyman .
