Star Guitar: Beats, Oranges and Video Tapes.

Today I would like to make my first entry on an artistic discipline still had not touched on the Blog: The Music Video or Video. And yes, I said it: artistic discipline. Because despite having a lot of straw and have to do every year hundreds and hundreds of horrible music videos (it's the same with literature, film, music or art, how many works are worth in all these disciplines along a year? at least the music videos last less ...). These video clips without quality, unfortunately, are the majority. And when you find one, literally, makes you want to remove the TV and do not ever turn it back on the phone and call your company and unregister ADSL Internet for the rest of your days. But of course, then you find that amid so much trash, there are some music videos that are true works of art that deserve to be watched again and again. Usually because they have a different visual concept of what we have been accustomed to seeing in the media. Sometimes, they create a visual concept itself so original and so rich, clear, television, film and especially the advertising, copying end, spoiling to take to the Mainstream.

Today I want to talk and share with you one of those pearls, one of those videos that are worth watching again and again, one of those works of art (in my humble opinion, of course, like everything I write in this Blog) to which I referred earlier: Videoclip The Chemical Brothers : "Star Guitar", directed by French Michel Gondry . The music video is not new, dating from 2001, so that analysis can be done with more perspective. And this is precisely another reason why I think this video clip a work of art because it has withstood the test of time well, because it has lost freshness, and beauty, and originality in the last 9 years (in the audiovisual and, indeed, in regard to something as ephemeral and adhered to the current fashion, such as video clips, is a long time). I actually think it has gained over time.

In a brief synopsis might say that the video clip is about what seen from the window of a train during a journey or travel. Although the synopsis is little explanatory power and moves us an important point that without getting into the concept, aesthetics or performance, and the Unlike the vast majority of video clips that bombard us daily. This is because it is a music video where a) No group appears at any time b) It appears no one singing or dancing c) Do not see the protagonist of the story being told, we see through their eyes. Anyway, with the explanation we have only one difference to the rest of us do not even hints at why it is a work of art. Although it is a good starting point, because the magic show with train travel, landscapes that look and the amount of things you can think or remember just by looking at through a window from our seat starts to make it more interesting. Michel Gondry, however, went beyond trying to differentiate or to make a video where someone contemplate a beautiful landscape, and take both the framework offered by the media (pictures from the window of a train ), to the end (the song itself) to create a story that even though you know what is going to continue happening, is so dynamic that you want to see what the next detail and see when repeating the above.

I mean, the music that make Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons ( The Chemical Brothers ) is electronic music, which also generally dance, but also have a quieter track as Example: The Pills Will not Help You Now "from the album" We Are The Night "(2007). (An aside: I saw them live at Creamfields 2005 in Almeria estropeárseles twice after the computer and stop the concert became a third time because we wanted to go without seeing them and said: "All you who find yourselves you deserve it back to try. " Started again and, this time, the third was the charm. The concert lasted nearly three hours, and was one of the most intense and I have most enjoyed in my life.) But back to the Clip, that make electronic music and use many beats was used by the French director to perfection, and he came to create a perfect symbiosis between elements can be seen from the train and the music, all those beats on different tracks. He had every element that appears through the window, each element that corresponded to see a track, with a sound, a beat of the song. For example the first beat (hit music) would correspond to one of these columns supporting the high tension wires across the road. Thus, every element that is associated with a particular sound, you see the same number of times repeated on-screen sound is heard in the song. It may seem a mess, well, explained in words, but I can assure which is very simple and as you saw five seconds of video you will understand. By the way, I leave here the "Making of" related by the Gondry and tell apart from the process, we will demonstrate the idea with various items around the house, such as oranges or some video tapes. Not wasted.

The idea may seem simple, (and even minimalist musical sense of the word as there is a steady pulse, and repetition of musical phrases, while the electronic dance music has always been based, like minimalist music, in these two features) but for me it simple is a value, which confirms my opinion. Maybe tell you something that the whole world could have done many times in his life, as is to follow the rhythm of a song with something in particular, a movement or whatever, but this fact does not detract from any merit, because it had a different and visually very attractive and very well supported and justified by the kind of music that accompanies it. The latter is important because really, this music, the song "Star Guitar" is the only reason and purpose which made this Music Video.

For all these arguments and other causes, perhaps, not be explained with reason (things you like or not, but do not know the reason) for me is a Music Video that I never tire of seeing (in fact I only like to listen to the song if I watch the video clip, for me the complete works are the two elements together), which gives me sensations that attracts me and what counts as told ( perhaps also because I love the train, its landscapes and sounds) and I think a work of art (yes, with capitals), congratulations Michel, Ed and Tom. I hope you liked the entry today. Thanks for reading. More tomorrow.

If someone disagrees with my opinion, unless you have a look and give me one, or better, give me many good reasons to try to convince me that it is not.
