Year 2001, have left behind all the technological fears of the "Year 2000". The computer becomes every day more common in the lives and homes of the English. Internet is a world to explore and so is easier and more economical to do so without losing your home, without disturbing noises from the modem and a more decent speeds. The law begins to consider the computer world as a place where you can commit crimes. 2001, the perfect time to make a movie about hackers or hackers .
Whenever you look back it seems easy to see that issues are of current interest and are at all times, but what merit is to realize at the time that is happening or is about to occur. Fernando H. Rodrigo was able to see the possibilities that it was giving the computer and Internet revolution was about to happen. A new world for fun and entertainment, for work, for study, communications ... but also for criminals, because when a world is a virgin is easier to exploit because they are not yet well defined laws.
And this is exactly the TV Movie or TV movie "Assault Computer." At one time it had addressed the issue of computers and computer network, but generally, in the celluloid seemed determined to treat it as a futuristic theme or science fiction. Stories where the computers or machines were rebelling against the man trying to make them disappear or enslave the human being. Movies like "2001 A Space Odyssey" ("2001 A Space Odyssey" by Stanley Kubrick , 1968) where "Hal 9000 " the central computer of the ship where the protagonists travel, rebels and tries to kill all the crew for not recognizing that it is not perfect. "Terminator" ("The Terminator" by James Cameron , 1984) and all its consequences where another central computer, in this case Skynet Produces a war between the two superpowers to keep the raises and enslave humanity. Or, of course, the example of " Matrix" ("The Matrix" by Larry and Andy Wachowski , 1999), only two years before "Computer Assault", where the machines also have enslaved us to use us as an energy source. A different case would be "The Red" ("The Net" Irwin Winkler, 1995), although it may be considered closest to the film that I took today, finally, carried away the plot to a recurring theme in Hollywood movies: a conspiracy in the United States government. As an attempt to bring the issue of information technology and computers to the world ends definitively away from what they are and can become computers and Internet network for any ordinary citizen. Even all the use that gives the computer is very hard to believe (I remember a scene where Sandra Bullock light a fireplace is the screen of your computer, a computer 1995, with a grim, 256-color animation, and she does as if it's comfort and even heat the room ...). For all this, because it is the subject from a different point of view and much closer to the reality of the moment and even the coming years, script is a real find.
With no "but" in the approach and the idea, then the film itself found some problems in translating the ideas of the script. With a cast well-known and high quality (although at that time had not yet reached the peak of their careers) but the limited resources (the budgets in a TV movie have nothing to do with the films that are released in cinema) movie while interesting, fails to achieve many of the proposed objectives and that if they were on paper in the approach.

One problem with the films of this type (technology, computers ...) is that it is difficult to represent what it is and how is it that makes someone with a computer program, either trying to find a key or entering a system. "Computer Assault" also faced this problem and solve it the way it was not satisfactory. Because, it seems they are playing the "Martians" that hacking a system. It is not something that is serious or you out of the story as it is any other way to tell the public in an understandable and immediately what is happening. One of the findings that I find the movie (apart from the approach and the story) is that as in a dive or montage of images, we present the concerns and personality of the characters without saying a word, and explained nothing. This makes us more understandable and credible course of action that each one of which we know as they are from before us.
The assembly also stands above the rest, especially for a TV Movie. Yet the action scenes (especially the railroad tracks) do not stop to function in its staging. In a matter of execution and also music. Music Luís A. Ruiz seems very inspired (perhaps too) in the original soundtrack of " Pi" by Darren Aronofsky , 1998 and the soundtrack is composed by Clint Mansell . In both cases, electronic music, which provides technology and computers (at least at the time) but works well in the Aronofsky movie because, unlike "Assault Computer" no other issues need more supportive action The drama, the characters or the relationships among these or become so obsolete as technology in " Pi" is fictional, almost pretending to be older than the date on technology that is set the film). Therefore, Luís A. Ruiz gets his intention of appearing technological (but now, like the cover design, typography and even the DVD menu, now outdated) but nothing else and the film in general and some particular scenes would have needed more records by of the score.
Definitely a good try which highlights the approach, the script and some characters but do not quite jell with small details of production, staging, performances and music. Anyway, I invite you to see her movies because of this issue and gender are rare in our movies, and because there are moments that deserve enjoy punishment (such as, above all, the Inspector Ramos LX or managing the security cameras at the end). Thanks.
