As we are in the temp prayed ozone hole was interesting to start with this.
Far from trying to explain in scientific terms and lack of formalities (probably buggy concept but good intention as far I am to be an expert on the subject) will try to show what happens with ozone in the upper atmosphere. At times be too obvious in others less so, but I prefer to review concepts already known by all (or perhaps not for all = d) and not lose followers.
The "layer" of ozone protects us from electromagnetic radiation from space (mainly the sun). But what really is this radiation? Is it really harmful?
often spoken of electromagnetic radiation at random without saying much about what is, without elaborating quantum (where things get complicated quickly) we can understand electromagnetic radiation as energy spread, as waves and as particles. This means that at this level is indistinguishable. But are waves behave as particles? Or particles behave like waves? Both, just that at times "should" think one way or another way to facilitate our mental idea sobe them. In this strange indivisible unit of energy (so far) is known as much or photon. Is said to be immaterial as a particle has no mass but momentum , propagates at the speed of light (300 thousand km / s in vacuum) and experience (feeling) the gravitational force (although not have mass) due to the curvature of space-time continuum, a fact that we understand (understand as well ... who says he understands women really like to accept it!) due to general relativity theory of Einstein. But we do not go around the bush. In conclusion (and perhaps in the form gross) are packets of electromagnetic radiation energy of different frequencies (different rates of change) and with them different wavelengths (distance in meters of a period, interval between two equivalent points) generating all what we know as the electromagnetic spectrum . So we have many "packets" with different energies and intensities of all general spectrum. Since less energy as radio waves, through infrared, visible light to the most energy as ultraviolet (UV), X and Gamma rays. All objects emit and receive radiation of some sort, more or less energy, more or less intensity, more or less frequently.
However, the radiation itself is not "bad" it is essential to life on earth and also facilitates our way of life, from hot tea in the microwave to send text message on Saturday night to tell your friends: "Where we go today." Unless you're like me in Antarctica where not only do not get text messages, as the signal, the electromagnetic radiation that carries your message ... "Coming out today," lost in the last pub in Ushuaia, but Nor is there bowling for these payments = s.
SI Electromagnetic radiation is highly damaging to life is the high-energy radiation and prolonged exposure and can produce from burns to alter the genetic information of your cells (DNA) mutations as causing cancer. Possible cause this is the so-called ultra violet radiation of short wavelength which is usually classified as Ultra Violet (UV-A between 320nm-380nm) UV-B (between 280nm-320nm) and shorter length wave and therefore the more energy UV-C (less than 280nm). Recall that nm is read as "nano meter" which is 1 10x-9, is 0.000000001 of a meter. Of these ozone absorbs virtually no UV-A, blocks all UV-C from reaching the earth and depending on the concentrations absorbs the UV-B.
